Format based on Tool 7.1 from Examining What We Do to Improve Our Schools (Harris, Edmonson, and Combs, 2010)
I read your comment about being frustrated with having to narrow down your action research plan. You did a good job. Using iPads in a classroom sounds like wonderful undertaking. You have thought out your plan well. Did you every mention how many students will be involved in the research? Good luck with your project.
ReplyDeleteGood point about the number of students. I had mentioned it in an earlier version or assignment but it was omitted in this format of the action plan. Our ALA program consists of 47 students and I will be monitoring them in three classes as well as the students in non-ALA classes of the same level with the same teachers. There could be up to 130 students involved (47 ALA and possibly 80 non-ALA). I won't know the exact number of non-ALA students until I pull the data and rosters for the non-ALA classes I am going to monitor.
ReplyDeleteI am really interested to see what you learn from this research. I would LOVE to work on a 1:1 campus and I really think that it is important that all schools start moving in that direction. I think that in order for our students to be successful after high school they are going to have to be taught in the 21st century and not the 20th. Each student not only needs access to a computer (or iPad) but they need to be using it every day.
ReplyDeleteYou study will provide great data for your school and district. Although I don’t work in a 1:1 district, we do have a BYOT policy which allows any student to bring a tablet, laptop, or iPad. These are great tools that can help equalize learning for many students. I think that it is wonderful that there are schools out there that are providing these tools for their students. I think your plan is clear and concise. It is highly focused on a specific target population. I think you will gain a lot from this study!
ReplyDeleteJeannette, I think you have a good plan. I made the comment that you might want to consider your next cycle of research on the discussion board, but I see that you have mentioned that you will discuss what your next steps will be at the end of your research. I think you have a concise plan. I do not know that I would change it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your thoughts about district guidelines for websites. The second I read that, I remembered that our district required three elements. I do not think that will change my research because the three elements we have to include are "just about" universal for school websites.
Keep up the great work!
SOunds like a great plan - the research outcomes will be significant as some teachers at my campus still shy away from allowing the children to utilize technology as a component of instruction. I am curious to see how teachers failitate/ use the technology through your observations. Good luck with your plan!
ReplyDeleteI hope that we are able to integrate a BYOD program at our campus as I do not believe we will ever become a 1:1 campus. I am very interested in following your project. Are you planning on conducting pre and post surveys of the teachers and students?
